Quienceanera

Hello everybody! Welcome to the worlds best blog ever!

In December I was invited to a quienceanera. A quienceanera is the party that a girl gets when she turns 15(quince is Spanish for 15). It is supposed to signify when she becomes "a woman"and is allowed to start dating. It is a VERY big deal the parents end up spending about as much money on the party as a wedding or more! The girl gets 7 "bridesmaids"and 7 "groomsmen" plus her to make the number 15. Then at the beginning everybody goes to the church so that she can say some vows about how she will stay with the faith and stuff. After they all go to the party where her Dad takes off her flat shoes and puts on high heels to signify that she is now a woman. She takes her first dance with her dad, which they had rehearsed for months. Then the bridesmaids, groomsmen and her do a special dance that they practiced. While they dance dinner is being served to the guests. After dinner and the dances everybody dances to a band that the girl chose. No, I didn't dance, I'm baptist. It was a lot of fun, and I would like to have my own quienceanera this year.

Adios!

Bienvenidos...Welcome to our blog!!!

Welcome to the newest and we think most exciting blog site in the world! This is the blog home of the Mitchell family, North American Baptist Conference appointed missionaries to Mexico City.
Mexico City is the largest city on this planet with and estimated 30 Million+ people!

By the way this is Brittany, the eldest of the Mitchell girls and the official blog master. So if this ever seems a bit weird, blame me, not my parents.
Mexico's official name is The United States Of Mexico. Mexico is the fourth largest country in Latin America land wise, however, it is the largest by population. The economy is rapidly developing. Tourism and agriculture are Mexico's largest industries.
In terms of religion, 94.26% of the country is christian, however, only 6.2% of that is protestant. In Mexico City things are even bleaker with under 2% of population attending an evangelical church. That's why we are there! To help plant churches in the largest and most influential Spanish speaking country in the world. Let us know who you are and leave a comment (but only nice comments...foul language and anti-faith bigots will be promptly removed...this is a family friendly site). We'll keep updating the site so that you know how we are doing as a family and how we can pray for each other.
Dios te bendiga (God bless you)
